RadiRo – International Festival of Radio Orchestras
3rd edition

9 concerts in 9 days of festival, 6 symphony orchestras from Europe and Asia, 19 conductors and soloists who hold the headline of the international musical scene: this is how the name card of the third edition of the RadiRo Festival looks like, organized by Radio Romania, the only European event of such an extent exclusively devoted to radio ensembles, which will take place in Bucharest, at the Romanian Radio Hall, from from September 23rd to October 1st, 2016!

And if Radio Romania has been uninterruptedly, since 1928, a true magic box for the lovers of classical music, bringing closer, by means of radio waves, concerts and events which have written the history of music in the last almost 90 years, RadiRo is pleased to invite you to attend its third edition, and step in the concert hall to listen live to exceptional orchestras and musicians, whose artistic destiny has been strongly linked to the world of radio!

In 2012, the first RadiRo edition has brought in Romania prestigious radio symphony ensembles like BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

The second edition, in 2014, has delighted the audience with 8 concerts performed by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France and the Romanian Radio National Orchestra, under the baton of such renowned conductors like Joshua Weilerstein, Ondrej Lenárd, Stéphane Denève, Case Scaglione, Vassily Sinaisky, Tiberiu Soare and Cristian Mandeal.

At its third edition, in 2016, the RadiRo Festival, which has become meanwhile a landmark and an event with a unique profile on the map of classical music festivals in Europe, presents a marathon – programme in a spectacular dialogue between the classical, modern and contemporary repertoire!

The festival will feature orchestras of maximum visibility and excellent reputation internationally: the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra, MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, ORF Radio – Symphonie Orchester Wien, BBC Concert Orchestra and, the host of the event, The Romanian Radio National Orchestra.

Kristjan Järvi is the honorary director of RadiRo 2016! A position of a symbolic patronage which speaks for itself about the spirit of this year’s edition of the festival: just like conductor Kristjan Järvi, the music director of the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Festival aims at this current edition to challenge, with sensibility and intelligence, discreetly and naturally, the frontiers between the diverse musical genres and approach a trans-cultural repertoire.

Innovative approaches will come one after another under the baton of renowned conductors like Lin Daye, Miguel Harth Bedoya, Cristian Măcelaru, Cornelius Meister, Leo Hussain, Barry Wordsworth and, of course, Kristjan Järvi. By means of their unique magical way of performing, which has won the wide acclaim from both critics and the audience, famous scores will take new life in the hands of violinists Gidon Kremer, Alexandru Tomescu and Gabriel Croitoru, pianists Stefano Bollani, Zhang Zuo, Vadym Kholodenko and Denis Kozhukhin, cellist Răzvan Suma, together with Tine Thing Helseth – trumpet and other soloists instrumentalists of the guest orchestras.

We kindly invite you therefore to continue the journey we have started four years ago, in the miraculous space where the concert hall meets the radio waves scene, so as to discover and enjoy together the extraordinary vitality and timeless verity of classical and contemporary music!
